Join the celebration of #518Day

Q: What is it #518Day?
A: An online celebration of the vibrant arts communities of the Capital Region through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and more.

Q: When is #518Day?
A: The first #518Day will be May 18, 2016, or 5/18 — which happens to be the area code of the Capital Region (or Capital District or Capitaland or whatever you call the 518 area). The second #518Day will be Thursday, May 18, 2017.

Q: How do you join?
A: Use the hashtag #518Day on your favorite social media platform on May 18 to tout what you love about the arts in the 518.

Sample Messages:

  • Happy #518Day everyone! Here’s a shout-out to one my favorite writers, Dennis Mahoney. Follow him on Twitter @Giganticide
  • I’m celebrating #518Day by seeing world-class art at the @TangMuseum
  • For #518Day, I recommend you support the African American Cultural Center of the Capital Region at
  • It’s #518Day so show your appreciation for your favorite artist, musician, writer, composer, designer, actor in the region!

I think you get the idea.

Q: I get you want to support the arts, but why “518”?
A: The 518 area code connects us all. It crosses over the rivers and hills, municipal divisions, and other barriers that separates us. Since many people are on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, this is an easy way for different voices to join together to show the world the richness this area offers.
